Scleral Lens Tip | Overfill The Bowl Of Your Lens

A common and helpful tip when applying scleral lenses is to “make it look like an ice cream cone!” This means slightly overfilling the lens bowl with saline, allowing for a dome of fluid at the top. Simply filling the lens to the rim isn’t enough—you need that cushion of extra saline to account for any overspill that occurs during application.

As the tip suggests, you'll feel the cool sensation of the saline before the lens touches your eye. That’s your sign you're close! Just hold your lids open a few more seconds, and your lens will settle into place.
