Less Confusion, Better Care - Simplifying Your Lens Care Routine

Less Confusion, Better Care - Simplifying Your Lens Care Routine

When you wear specialty contact lenses, it can sometimes feel like there’s a solution for everything and before long, your bathroom counter is full of bottles.

Part of the confusion comes from having choices. You may be given several product options by your eye care practitioner, hear about another product from a friend, and discover a few more recommendations in an online community. Suddenly, you’re using multiple products that may be doing the same job.

Your solutions should complete each other, not compete with each other.

Every product in your lens care routine should have a purpose. Depending on your lenses and your practitioner’s recommendations, your routine may include products for cleaning, disinfecting, filling or rinsing; daily essentials. Along with occasional treatments for additional care such as conditioning or deep cleaning.

The key is understanding what each product does and when to use it. If two or three products are serving essentially the same purpose, you could be adding unnecessary steps and unnecessary confusion. You may also be increasing the time it takes to care for your lenses each day, as well as the overall cost of your lens care routine.

Your Community Is Valuable. Your Eyes Are Unique.

Specialty lens communities can be incredible resources. Other lens wearers understand the learning curve, can share helpful tips, and often provide the kind of encouragement that only comes from someone who has been there.
But what works well for someone else may not be right for your eyes, your lenses, or your lens material or coating.

NOTE: Never change your prescribed lens care routine or switch products without first consulting your eye care practitioner.
Use your community for support and ideas, but talk with your eye care practitioner before making any changes to your care routine.

Keep It Simple

Take a look at the products you’re currently using and ask yourself: “What does each one do?”

If you’re not sure, or if several seem to be doing the same thing, bring your products or a list of them to your next appointment. Your practitioner can help you create a routine in which every product has a job.

PROTIP: Your phone is your friend! Take a picture of all your products to show your practitioner. It can also be helpful to use your phone to record your appointment conversations and product recommendations so you have an easy reference later when you’re at home.

When it comes to lens care, the goal isn’t more products. It’s the right products, working together, for you.
