Tangible Boost Q&A
By Megan Patterson, OD
We’ve teamed up with our Resident Ambassador, Dr. Megan Patterson, to address the most common questions we receive from practitioners about Tangible Boost. If you have questions that aren’t covered here, be sure to explore the additional FAQs and resources below, or contact us for more information.
What does Boost do?
Tangible Boost is designed for corneal and scleral GP lenses that have been made with Hydra-PEG coating. It contains a maintenance dose of Hydra-PEG to augment the coating already on the patient’s lenses to keep them feeling like new. Hydra-PEG will slowly break down over the course of specialty lenses’ lives, but Boost ensures that the patient doesn’t experience adverse effects of poor wetting or dryness sensations while wearing their lenses as this happens.
When should patients use Tangible Boost?
Tangible Boost will work the best if it is used early on, in the first month or two that the patient has the lens. The longer the lens is worn without using Boost, the more the Hydra-PEG coating can diminish and the less difference Boost can make. That’s because Boost’s only ingredients are Hydra-PEG and water, so it can only bind to the lens if the coating is still present.
What is included in a box of Tangible Boost?
Tangible Boost comes with two full treatments. Patients should be advised to use Boost monthly or to follow any specific instructions you may have for their use. Boost binds to the Hydra-PEG that has already been covalently bound to the lens during manufacturing. It’s designed to continually rebuild and stabilize the coating starting at the beginning of the lens wear cycle. Habitual use of the Tangible care system, including Tangible Boost, increases compliance-based success and reduces overall chair time.
Why is Tangible Boost Rx-Only?
Tangible Boost requires a prescription for patients to order to ensure that only patients with Hydra-PEG coated lenses use it. Tangible provides several ways to easily submit a prescription using an online portal system, custom Rx pads, or fax. Patients receive a confirmation email upon receipt of their prescription and can order anytime on tangiblescience.com
Tangible Boost is not approved for use with Hybrid lenses.
